101 Ways to Be a Better Manager
#0510 101 Ways to Be a Better Manager: A Short Course for Social Service Agencies
Gary Crow, PhD
101 Ways to Be a Better Manager focuses on twelve areas of managerial practice.
The curriculum goal is twofold. First, it is important to focus what you, the manager, do well, where your strengths are. Simply emphasizing these areas will make you a better manager-do more of what you do well. Second, defining and attending to what you do less well also leads to being a better manager.
The twelve areas of focus include:
- Supporting and Furthering the Agency's Mission;
- Participating on the Management Team;
- Bringing Leadership to Your Level Within the Agency;
- Receiving Input from Others;
- Defining Tasks and Assignments;
- Delegating Responsibilities;
- Coordinating Resources; Supporting Subordinates;
- Problem-solving;
- Decision-making;
- Monitoring Activities; and,
- Disciplining Subordinates.
The curriculum is appropriate for social service managers, administrators, board members and supervisors of staff, volunteers and/or task forces and recruitment and retention committees. The workbook is suitable for either group training or a self-instructional format.
